New record set for most migrants crossing the Channel to the UK on a single boat - as three people including child die in weekend journeys

A new record has been set for the most migrants crossing the Channel to the UK on a single boat - as three people, including a child, die on treacherous journeys this weekend.  

The passage to the UK on Saturday saw 125 people on one vessel come over to Britain from France it is understood. 

The number of people onboard breaks a previous record from August, when 106 migrants crossed to the UK on what was dubbed a 'mega dinghy' by media.

Some 33,000 migrants have arrived in Britain on small boats this year so far. 

This is a record-breaking total for this point in the year, with such highs never before seen since data on Channel crossings was first reported in 2018.  

Saturday saw 895 people arrive in 12 boats.

The UK population has seen the second-largest annual rise in more than 75 years, fuelled by spiralling migration, official estimates show.

The number of people in the UK grew by more than three-quarters of a million in the year to June 2024, with the boom primarily driven by international migration, while births and deaths accounted for only a small proportion of the change.

There were a record 69.3 million people estimated to be in the UK in mid-2024, up 755,254 (1.1 per cent) from 68.5 million in mid-2023.

It is the second-largest numerical jump since at least 1949, when comparable data begins, behind only the rise of 890,049 that took place in the preceding 12 months from mid-2022 to mid-2023.

Britain supplies over 100,000 bullets to Israel within single month amid Gaza genocide

A recent investigation has discovered that Britain supplied a total of 110,000 bullets to Israel in August, amid the Israeli military’s ongoing genocidal war on Gaza.

According to the report published by the British public broadcast television Channel 4, the shipment, valued at roughly £20,000 (almost $27,000), is included in a wider surge of UK arms exports to the Tel Aviv regime, with total shipments this August exceeding £150,000 – the second-largest monthly total recorded since January 2022.

The report highlighted that the items acquired through one shipment were designated as “bullets” under Israel’s customs codebook.

Additional shipments during that month comprised components for “tanks,” components “of shotguns or rifles,” and a wide-ranging “other” category that included projectiles, explosives, and ammunition.

Farage hits out at Starmer after prime minister says Reform immigration policy is ‘racist’

Nigel Farage has said Keir Starmer’s branding of Reform UK plans as racist “will incite and encourage the radical left” and “directly threatens the safety” of his party’s campaigners.

Starmer and his ministers have ramped up their criticism of Mr Farage’s party in recent days and particularly honed in on the recently announced proposal to remove the right of some migrants legally living in Britain.

The Reform UK leader said Starmer should feel “ashamed” of his comments, which he called an “absolute disgrace”, and accused the Prime Minister of descending “into the gutter”.

In his speech to the Labour conference in Liverpool, Starmer said a person who argues that “people who have lived here for generations” should now be deported is “an enemy of national renewal”.

The Prime Minister said: “This party, this great party, is proud of our flags, yet if they are painted alongside graffiti, telling a Chinese takeaway owner to ‘go home’, that’s not pride, that’s racism.

“And, conference, you say or imply that people cannot be English or British because of the colour of their skin, that mixed-heritage families owe you an explanation, that people who have lived here for generations, raised their children here, built lives here – working in our schools, our hospitals, running businesses – our neighbours, if you say they should now be deported, then mark my words, we will fight you with everything we have because you are an enemy of national renewal.”

Police search for man after sexual assault on Colchester bus

POLICE officers are looking for a man in connection with a sexual assault on a bus in Colchester.

 

A teenage girl was sexually assaulted by a man on July 15.

 

The victim and suspect both boarded the bus, which was heading in the direction of Shrub End, at Osborne Street bus station at 7.55am.

 

During the journey, the suspect rubbed himself against the victim before she moved away.
