Israel using ‘enforced disappearance’ to cover up torture of Gaza abductees: Rights group
Saturday, 30 August 2025 4:49 PM [ Last Update: Saturday, 30 August 2025 4:49 PM ]
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) has warned against Israel’s continued “forced disappearance” of thousands of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
Marking the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearance, the prisoners’ rights group said Tel Aviv is using enforced disappearance as a cover for systematic torture of detainees, with dozens being killed in custody.
It said rights groups still face major challenges in determining the fate of many Palestinians abducted from Gaza since Israel launched its genocidal war on the territory on October 7, 2023.
Some cases have been uncovered through petitions and limited prison visits, where rights organizations documented “unprecedented brutality.”
Testimonies detail “systematic torture from the moment of arrest to imprisonment, leading to the deaths of detainees,” PPS said.
Israel has also withheld the bodies of those killed, refusing to provide information about them.
The group pointed to military camps such as Sde Teiman, as well as Ofer, Anatot, and other facilities, where abducted Palestinians are held in secretive conditions and subjected to widespread abuse.

The Israeli regime has intensified its aerial assault on southern Lebanon, bombing the highlands of Ali al-Taher and al-Dabsha, as well as the outskirts of Nabatieh al-Fawqa and Kfar Tibnit.
The Israeli army carried out two airstrikes on the outskirts of Ali al-Taher, Kafr Tibnit, and Upper Nabatieh, causing nearby homes to shake from the blasts, the Lebanese National News Agency reported.
Furthermore, an Israeli drone strike hit a residential home in the border town of Aita al-Shaab, also in southern Lebanon. In a separate incident earlier this morning, a missile landed on the Darb al-Qamar Road in Mifdoun but did not detonate.

By Ivan Kesic Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahwi and several cabinet members were martyred after Israeli airstrikes targeted a government building in Sana'a on Thursday.
The Yemeni government confirmed the martyrdom of Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahwi and six of his ministers on Saturday, vowing decisive retaliation to Zionist terrorism.
A presidential statement detailed that the attack targeted the prime minister and members of his cabinet during a routine meeting convened to assess the government’s one-year performance.
The statement expressed profound sorrow over the loss, noting that several other ministers were also injured and are currently receiving intensive medical care. It assured the public that essential services would continue uninterrupted despite these assassinations.
The government declared that Yemen remains steadfast in its support for the oppressed in Palestine amid the ongoing Israeli-American genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.
It emphasized the nation’s resolve to continue strengthening its armed forces to confront all challenges, asserting that “the great nation of Yemen is present in all scenes” in solidarity with freedom-seeking people worldwide.
In addition to PM Al-Rahwi, those martyred include the ministers of information, justice, economy, agriculture, and social affairs.

Abducted Gaza hospital chief suffering from 'scabies and boils' in Israeli detention: Lawyer
Monday, 01 September 2025 7:05 PM [ Last Update: Monday, 01 September 2025 7:05 PM ]
Hussam Abu Safiya, chief of Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital, is enduring brutal conditions in Israeli detention, confined to near-total darkness, exposed to sunlight for just 30 minutes a month, and suffering from scabies and boils, his lawyer revealed.
Gheed Qassem, speaking after a rare visit to a detention center in the Israeli-occupied territories, disclosed that Abu Safiya and his nephew Hussam Zaher are “exposed to sunlight for only thirty minutes a month, while scabies and boils ravage their bodies, and they are forced to remain in the same clothes.”
"As for bathing, it lasts only two minutes, and they have each lost a third of their body weight. They are in dire need of dermatologists and medicines to treat the widespread skin diseases and infections," Qassem said.
Abu Safiya was abducted on December 27, 2024, when Israeli forces raided Kamal Adwan Hospital, forcing patients and medical staff to evacuate while detaining others.
Qassem also relayed a message from Abu Safiya, who has become a symbol of steadfastness and resistance for Palestinians against Israeli repression.
“I entered in the name of humanity, and I will leave in the name of humanity. I am the one who was abducted from inside the hospital. We will remain on our land and continue to provide healthcare services to the people, God willing, even from a tent," the Palestinian doctor said.
Abu Safiya's family reported that he endured harsh conditions during the initial days of his detention, including 24 days in solitary confinement before being transferred to Ofer Prison in the occupied West Bank, where he continues to experience poor treatment.
The family has urged the international community to pressure Israel to provide Abu Safiya with adequate food and medical care and to secure his immediate release.
The Israeli military said the 51-year-old Abu Safiya was among those taken for questioning over alleged ties to the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.
The Palestinian doctor had reportedly suffered multiple broken ribs due to torture at the hands of Israeli interrogators. His lawyers reported that the torture was meant to force Dr. Abu Safiya to make false confessions that would be used against him.

Gaza City under siege: Israeli forces kill dozens, set shelters ablaze
Wednesday, 03 September 2025 2:10 PM [ Last Update: Wednesday, 03 September 2025 2:10 PM ]
Israeli forces and tanks stormed Gaza City on Wednesday, targeting one of the densely populated urban areas as part of the regime's new offensive that has now reached the city’s heart.
Residents of Sheikh Radwan reported widespread destruction of homes and shelters for displaced Palestinians. At least 53 people were killed in Israeli attacks across the city, medical sources said.
“Sheikh Radwan is being burnt upside-down,” said a 60-year-old mother of five.
"The occupation destroyed houses, burnt tents, and drones played audio messages ordering people to leave," she said, adding that the people of Gaza will never forgive those "who stand by and do nothing to prevent our deaths."
Military forces dropped grenades on three schools converted into shelters for displaced families, setting tents ablaze, and detonated armored vehicles to destroy homes in eastern Sheikh Radwan.
A medical clinic was also struck, destroying two ambulances, according to witnesses.
Six more Palestinians, including child, die of starvation in Gaza
Wednesday, 03 September 2025 3:34 PM [ Last Update: Wednesday, 03 September 2025 3:34 PM ]
Gaza’s Health Ministry says six more Palestinians have died from “famine and malnutrition” as Israel’s siege tightens, with hunger-related deaths reaching a record high last month.
On Wednesday, the ministry reported that six people, including a child, died from “famine and malnutrition” in the past 24 hours.
The latest deaths bring the toll of Palestinians who have died from hunger-related causes since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023 to 367, including 131 children.
This comes a day after the ministry warned of a sharp rise in famine-related deaths in Gaza, as at least 185 Palestinians died from malnutrition in August, the highest toll in months.
The Integrated Food Phase Classification (IPC) – the UN-backed global hunger monitor – officially declared a famine in Gaza in a report published on August 22.
Since then, 89 deaths have been recorded, including 16 children, as the declaration didn’t result in any remarkable increase in humanitarian aid to the besieged strip.
The ministry also noted that more than 43,000 children under five are now suffering from malnutrition, while over 55,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women have also been affected.
