Netanyahu admits using social media as weapon to influence US opinion amid Gaza genocide

Israeli prime minister claims seeking influence over TikTok, X

Rania Abu Shamala | 27.09.2025 - Update : 27.09.2025

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted Friday that his government views social media platforms as a “weapon” to support Israel's right-wing in the US amid condemnation for ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza.

In a meeting with US influencers at Israel’s Consulate General in New York and published in a video on influencer Debra Lea’s account on the US social media company X, Netanyahu described social media as “the most important weapon … to secure our base in the US.”

He identified TikTok as “the most important purchase going on right now,” alleging its control could be “consequential.”

Netanyahu also mentioned X, saying: “We have to talk to Elon (Musk). He’s not an enemy, he’s a friend.”

He claimed that if influence could be secured over TikTok and X, Israel would “get a lot.”

Israel destroyed Christian presence in Palestine: Church Affairs committee

Monday, 29 September 2025 7:32 PM [ Last Update: Monday, 29 September 2025 7:32 PM ]

The Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine says Israel has “destroyed” the Christian presence in Palestine amid ongoing strikes on churches and related institutions in the Gaza Strip, directly refuting Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim of protecting Christians.

(...)

The statement came in response to Netanyahu’s speech at the United Nations on Friday, in which he claimed that Israel is the only protector of Christians in West Asia.

"In a nearly empty UN General Assembly hall, war criminal and ICC fugitive Benjamin Netanyahu once again spread lies about Palestinian Christians,” the committee said, noting that many delegates walked out in protest as Netanyahu began his address during the 80th session.

(...)

The committee noted that “before the Nakba of 1948, Palestinian Christians comprised 12.5 percent of the population in historic Palestine (the West Bank, including al-Quds, Gaza, and 1948-occupied territories). Today, only 1.2 percent remain in historic Palestine, and just 1 percent in the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967.”

Israeli navy vessels approach a number of boats in Global Sumud Flotilla

Wednesday, 01 October 2025 3:16 AM [ Last Update: Wednesday, 01 October 2025 5:37 AM ]

Activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, a multinational humanitarian convoy, have announced via social media that their fleet is now approaching 120 nautical miles from Gaza's coast, entering a designated "high-risk zone" where previous aid missions have been intercepted or attacked by Israeli occupation forces.

The flotilla, which takes its name from the Arabic word "sumud," meaning steadfastness or resilience, is the largest civilian-led maritime effort of its kind. It comprises over 50 vessels and involves thousands of participants from more than 46 countries. The flotilla has 497 activists on board.

According to the latest social media post from the activists, unidentified vessels approached a number of boats in the Flotilla, some with their lights off. Participants applied security protocols in preparation for an interception.

"The vessels have now left the Flotilla. We continue to sail to Gaza, approaching the 120 nautical mile mark, near the area where previous flotillas have been intercepted and/or attacked," the update post added.

According to a Drop Site News update, "Israeli navy vessels are reportedly moving in to intercept the Global Sumud Flotilla. No ships have been boarded yet, but CCTV has been disrupted on several boats. Participants are preparing for interception."

President of Colombia Gustavo Petro said in the latest statement, “Any Israeli attack on the civilian, humanitarian, and nonviolent Global Sumud Flotilla would constitute a blatant violation of international law and a crime against humanity.”

Israeli forces intercept Sumud Flotilla near Gaza, board vessels

Wednesday, 01 October 2025 7:03 PM [ Last Update: Wednesday, 01 October 2025 9:22 PM ]

Israeli naval forces have intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla, a monumental fleet attempting to break the suffocating Tel Aviv-imposed siege of the Gaza Strip.

According to flotilla organizers, Israeli patrol boats surrounded the fleet and intercepted at least two vessels near Gaza.

The flotilla said its boats were less than 90 nautical miles from Gaza.

(...)

“Multiple vessels of the Global Sumud Flotilla—notably Alma, Surius, Adara—were illegally intercepted and boarded by Israeli Occupation Forces in international waters,” the organizers said.

Other vessels, including Yulara and Meteque, “have been targeted with water cannons,” the fleet reported.

“These illegal attacks on unarmed humanitarian ships are a war crime.”

Israel killed over 100 civilians in Lebanon since ceasefire: UN

Wednesday, 01 October 2025 6:24 PM [ Last Update: Wednesday, 01 October 2025 6:24 PM ]

The United Nations confirmed the “tragic” killing of 103 civilians in Israeli strikes in Lebanon since a November 2024 ceasefire agreement, and called for a permanent end to the attacks.

“Up until the end of September, the UN Human Rights Office has verified 103 civilians killed in Lebanon since the ceasefire,” the UN human rights body said in a statement on Wednesday.

It also referred to thousands of Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement, including attacks on civilians and home demolitions, recorded by the Lebanese Armed Forces.

UN Human Rights Chief Volker Turk stated, “We are still seeing devastating impacts of jet and drone strikes in residential areas, as well as near UN peacekeepers in the south.”

“Today, families are simply unable to make a start on rebuilding their homes and their lives, and instead are faced by the real and present danger of more strikes. Hundreds of damaged schools, health facilities, places of worship, among other civilian sites, are still no-go zones, or at best, only partly usable,” Turk added.

(...)

Turk added that over 80,000 people remain displaced in Lebanon as a result of the ongoing Israeli strikes, noting that the displaced people are living in dire conditions.

Israeli military stops nearly all boats in aid flotilla, sparking global protests

By Reuters October 3, 2025 8:05 AM GMT+2 Updated 41 mins ago

Oct 2 (Reuters) - Israel faced international condemnation and protests on Thursday after its military intercepted almost all of about 40 boats in a flotilla carrying aid to Gaza and took captive more than 450 foreign activists, including Swedish campaigner Greta Thunberg.

Cameras broadcasting live feeds from the boats showed armed Israeli soldiers in helmets and night vision goggles boarding the ships, while passengers huddled in life vests with their hands up.

A video from the Israeli foreign ministry showed Thunberg, the most prominent of the passengers, sitting on a deck surrounded by soldiers.

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators took to the streets in cities across Europe as well as in Karachi, Buenos Aires and Mexico City to protest Israel's capturing of the activists two years into its assault on Gaza. Italian unions called a general strike for Friday.

The Global Sumud Flotilla, the organiser of the voyage, said on X that more than 450 volunteers had been detained. Earlier it said some of them were transferred to one large cargo vessel before being taken ashore.

Global Sumud Flotilla detainees go on hunger strike after Israeli attack

Friday, 03 October 2025 11:12 AM [ Last Update: Friday, 03 October 2025 11:12 AM ]

Activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla have gone on hunger strike since they were abducted by Israeli forces in international waters while they were trying to take humanitarian aid to Gaza and break Israel’s blockade of the strip.

On Friday, the International Committee to Break the Siege of Gaza said in a statement that several activists held aboard the vessels “announced that they have entered an open-ended hunger strike from the moment of their detention.”

The announcement comes as the Israeli military seized the final boat of the Global Sumud Flotilla, once a 44-strong fleet.

Livestream video showed Israeli forces forcing their way onboard the Polish-flagged Marinette, which reportedly has a crew of six, on Friday morning.

Gaza flotilla members allege beatings and insults in Israeli detention

Some of those held say guns were pointed at them, they were threatened with dogs and deprived of sleep

Lorenzo Tondo in Palermo, Sam Jones in Madrid and Helena Smith in Athens
Mon 6 Oct 2025 18.55 CEST

International activists, journalists and lawyers deported from Israel after attempting to breach the 16-year maritime blockade of Gaza as part of a humanitarian flotilla have alleged being subjected to brutal physical and verbal abuse by Israeli forces during their detention.

The alleged abuses included sleep and medication deprivation, beatings, having automatic rifles pointed at their heads, dogs set upon them, having to sleep on the floor, being subjected to insults and being made to watch footage of the Hamas attacks on Israel on 7 October 2023.

“I was beaten from the moment we entered the port until the very end,” said Saverio Tommasi, an Italian journalist. “Blows to my back, blows to my head – and they [the Israeli soldiers] laughed, laughed at all of it. Anyone who failed to keep their eyes down was punished with a hit to the head.”

Israeli forces intercepted all the boats of the Global Sumud flotilla (GSF), carrying more than 400 people including parliamentarians and the environmental campaigner Greta Thunberg, last week. Most of the people were held at Ketziot, a high-security prison in the Negev desert used primarily to detain Palestinians whom Israel accuses of involvement in terrorist activities.

(...)

The national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has said he was “proud” of the way staff behaved at Ketziot. He said in a statement on the activists: “They should get a good feel for the conditions in Ketziot prison and think twice before they approach Israel again.”

Rafael Borrego, a Spanish activist and lawyer, told Reuters: “At any time that any of us called a police officer, we risked that seven or more fully armed people entered to our cell, as they did on mine, pointing us with weapons at our heads, with dogs ready to attack us, and being dragged to the floor. This happened on a daily basis.”

Hamas announces reaching deal based on Trump’s proposal aimed at ending US-backed Israeli genocide

Wednesday, 08 October 2025 11:52 PM [ Last Update: Thursday, 09 October 2025 1:16 AM ]

Hamas has announced reaching a deal during indirect negotiations with the Israeli regime, which is aimed ending Tel Aviv’s two-year-plus United States-backed war of genocide on the Gaza Strip based on a proposal forwarded by US President Donald Trump.

The Palestinian resistance movement made the announcement in a statement in early Thursday.

The agreement, the group said, “stipulates ending the war on Gaza, the withdrawal of the occupation from it, and the entry of aid” as well as exchange of the remaining Israeli captives in Gaza with Palestinian prisoners.

It noted that it had engaged in “responsible and serious” discussions with various Palestinian resistance factions concerning the proposal before signing the agreement.

The movement reiterated that its contribution to efforts leading to the deal has been driven by its keen desire towards realization of “a halt to the war of extermination against our Palestinian people and the withdrawal of the occupation from the Gaza Strip.”

The talks were launched after Hamas responded to Trump’s 20-point proposal, agreeing to release the captives in exchange for Palestinian inmates and hand over Gaza’s administration to a Palestinian body.
