Omdat de politiek zwijgt over 11 september, wil DKNWZ.nl aan de 2de kamerverkiezingen van 22 november deelnemen. Hiermee hebben we de mogelijkheid om een aantal belangrijke kwesties naar voren te brengen.

Standpunten;
1. Heropening onderzoek 9/11.
2. Stemcomputers met papieren print als bewijs.
3. Stop verdere aantasting privacy.
4. Bescherming klokkenluiders.
5. Echte inflatie correctie.

Er zullen dus tenminste 30 mensen per kiesdistrict naar hun plaatselijke gemeentehuis moeten gaan om een handtekening te zetten!

Sharp rise in number of Dutch singles

AMSTERDAM — The number of singles living in the Netherlands has increased by 400,000 in the past 10 years to almost 2.5 million on 1 January 2006.

About one in six men live alone and one in five women are single, the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) said on Monday.

The CBS attributed the increase in the number of singles to population growth. Relationships are more frequently ending in break-ups and youth are more often choosing to live alone.

The number of single men aged 35-54 is rising the quickest. In 1996, there were 300,000 single men in this age group. Ten years later, that figure had risen to 419,000.

The only age group that showed a decline was women aged 55 to 74. The CBS said this was because men are living longer.

The CBS also said that that number of residents declined in 13 of the 40 regions of the Netherlands. The decline was most noticeable in the region around Delfzijl and southern Limburg.

The number of residents only declined in nine regions a year ago and in 2000, only the southern Limburg region recorded a decline in the number of residents.

Vlaams Belang steps closer to victory

BRUSSELS - A recent documentary "Questions à la Une" acts as whistleblower against the progression of the Belgian extreme right.

French-speaking Belgian TV and radio organisation RTBF recently broadcast a worrisome documentary on the growing popularity of the extreme-right party, the Vlaams Belang, in the Flemish part of the country.

A popularity, according to La Libre Belgique, that may bring the Vlaams Belang to victory and which is grossly underestimated in French-speaking Belgium.

Christophe Deborsu's documentary is well structured. The investigation starts with an anecdote surrounding a street name and ends with the Vlaams Belang's highly effective campaign strategy.

The documentary reveals for instance that the town of Breendonk was the first Belgian town to have a concentration camp, which claimed the lives of 180 people in the Second World War.

Breendonk is also one of the five Belgian towns which still has a Cyriel Verschaeve street, named after a Belgian clergyman and writer who was condemned for collaboration with the Nazis during the Second World War.

The Flemish priest had hopes that the Germans would "clean" Belgium of its French-speaking citizens. The mayor of Breendonk does not see the point of renaming the street.

Capitalising on this ambiguous relationship with the past, the Vlaams Belang has rapidly grown popular since it became an official party; from one percent of the vote in 1981 to 24 percent in 2005.

Deborsu's documentary shows how the party recruits and trains activists in all social spheres, relatively poor Belgians who believe immigrants to be responsible for their difficulties and richer Belgians afraid of loosing their wealth.

In Antwerp the Vlaams Belang's offices have replaced the municipal facilities as a meeting point, which further demonstrating the effectiveness of the party's campaign.

In Schoten, a municipality located in the province of Antwerp, the VB has acquired 35 percent of the votes since the last elections, not without the help of a blond and beautiful ex-Miss Belgium and a team of well-educated students, reports La Libre Belgique.

This politically active youth movement recruits and sells the Vlaams Belang's ideology in the streets, bars and clubs.

The documentary presents the president of the Christian Democrat and Flemish CD&V of Schoten, Harrie Hendrickx, saying "I never said no" when asked if a coalition of CD&V and the Vlaams Belang is possible.

The documentary also mentions an elected CD&V member who recently changed to the Vlaams Belang party and questions if he will be the first of many.

Seven Dutch universities in top 100

AMSTERDAM — Seven Dutch universities were included on Thursday in a list of the world's top 100 universities.

The Netherlands and Australia finished equal third on the rankings, each with seven universities listed.

In a list compiled by British newspaper 'The Times', the US topped the rankings, with 33 universities, followed by the UK with 15.

Ranked 67th, the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven is the Netherlands' top ranked tertiary institute, followed by the Universiteit van Amsterdam in 69th place.

Other universities mentioned are the Technische Universiteit Delft (86th), the Universiteit Leiden (90th), Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam (92nd) and the Universiteit Utrecht (95th).

Wageningen Universiteit was the lowest ranked Dutch university, but still scraped into the top 100, finishing with a ranking of 97.

The winner was Harvard University in the US, the same as it was last year.

Second and third place was taken out by the University of Cambridge and Oxford University in the UK respectively.

Arrestant voorgeleid

ALPHEN - De verdachte in de vermissingszaak Joost Vastenhouw wordt vermoedelijk begin volgende week voorgeleid aan de rechter-commissaris.

Die beslist of de man in voorarrest blijft.

Justitie verdenkt hem van betrokkenheid bij de verdwijning van Joost, van wie tot nu toe nog geen enkel spoor is gevonden.

Vanwege de onstane commotie in de buurt van de woning aan de Magerhorst is besloten om volgende week een buurtbijeenkomst te houden. Datum daarvoor is nog niet bekend. ,,We willen eerst de voorgeleiding afwachten,’’ stelt een woordvoerster van Justitie.

,,Het onderzoek naar de verdwijning van Vastenhouw is nog volop bezig, maar het leek ons toch een goede zaak om de buurt zoveel mogelijk op de hoogte te houden.’’

Justitie en buurtbewoners spreken het vermoeden uit dat er een misdrijf is gepleegd.

Joost is vooral op muzikaal vlak betrokken bij extreem-rechtse bijeenkomsten. Hij speelde in de band Calslagen. Die band toerde in 2005 door Oost-Europa op, onder meer tijdens concerten die werden georganiseerd door de internationale nazi-beweging Blood & Honour.

Uit die beweging is ook een Belgische nazi-cel ontstaan, die onlangs is opgerold. ,,Je kunt echter geen link leggen tussen die Belgische cel en Vastenhouw,’’ zegt Gerrit de Wit van de Fabel van de Illegaal. ,,Joost speelt in die band, maar was niet iemand die zich geregeld op extreem-rechste demonstraties liet zien.’

Ook is niet duidelijk of Vastenhouw nog deel uit maakt van Calslagen. Eerder dit jaar verlieten twee leden de band. Onduidelijk is of Joost daarbij hoort en of de twee vrijwillig zijn opgestapt of uit de band zijn gezet.

Op internet benadrukken vrienden van Joost dat hij een goed karakter heeft. ,,Joost was een hele lieve jongen, die altijd klaarstond en waarmee je lol kon hebben’’, schrijft een vriend uit Vlaardingen.

Een Alphenaar voegt toe: ,,Zijn muziek en politieke voorkeur staan geheel los van dit misdrijf en hij zou nooit onderduiken voor linkse bedreigingen.’’

Polling computers ruled inadequate for elections

AMSTERDAM — The use of polling computers in 35 municipalities has been rejected due to concerns over the ease with which a voter's choice can be discovered.

It means Amsterdam voters will have to cast their ballot again with pencil and paper, while other municipalities can still choose to use different polling computers.

Minister for Administrative Reform Atzo Nicolai said on Monday that almost 1,200 polling computers from manufacturer Sdu have been rejected.

It represents 10 percent of the total number of polling computers in the Netherlands.

After Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Tilburg are the largest cities forced to find alternative voting possibilities.

An investigation by the intelligence service AIVD has revealed that the radio signals used by the Sdu computers to record votes can be intercepted 20 to 30m away.

It means someone could determine what party another person voted for, violating the principle of private ballots.

Nicolai said he withdrew the permit for the use of the computers.

The remaining 90 percent of the nation's polling computers (totalling 8,000 units) are made by Nedap.

The AIVD tested three of the four Nedap variants and determined that there is no danger of 'bugging'. Results of the tests on the fourth variant are expected soon.

Nicolai instructed the AIVD to conduct the tests after the protest group 'We don't trust polling computers' recently raised concerns about the reliability of the machines.

Nedap is currently busy installing new microchips and software to prevent hackers distorting the votes counted by its computers. A new unique seal will used.

Research institute TNO will act as an independent, third check of the system to ensure the computers are fraud-proof for the 22 November national elections.
