Two Polish citizens were remanded in custody, charged with the rape of a 26-year-old woman in Sandnes in western Norway last weekend.

The two men, aged 23 and 25, were arrested at their workplace on Thursday morning, newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad reports. Police lawyer Børge Bertelsen said that the two were apprehended on the strength of witness testimony.

"We received a tip about these persons that matched the description the woman gave us. We will request they be held for four weeks and that they be held separately during this period," Bertelsen told the newspaper.

Neither of the men have admitted guilt.

According to the woman's testimony, the rape was carried out in a grove outside of Sandnes. She had attended a party on the outskirts of the city before going in to town. In Sandnes she entered a car with at least two men. They returned to the party, which had ended in the interim. After this the woman said she was driven to the grove and raped.
