10/13/2006 | 12:03 Vast increase in foreign labor This year, 4,400 immigrant workers have entered the Icelandic labor market. This is a vast increase, as in 2005 only 3,900 were registered. In September alone, 1,000 foreign workers entered the labor market, more workers than have ever been registered in such a short period of time before. Morgunbladid reports. The Icelandic Directorate of Labor recently made these numbers public. The report also revealed that the unemployment rate in September was 1 percent, the lowest in five years.
