CONSIDER THIS!

A youngish, divorced, mother of two, living on a council estate elects to spend her time running around and partying with her new boyfriend and the fast crowd, leaving the care and raising of her two boys to others.

When she and her alcohol or drug filled friends are killed in a horrendous high-speed crash against a concrete pillar, public opinion condemns her as a lousy mother.

The churches are the first to get into the act, condemning absent and wayward mothers, and calling for a return to Christian values.

The British troika that is the press, the police and the media, call, as they always do for yet more laws and regulations to prevent ‘this kind of thing’, and the politicians and social services obligingly seize on this opportunity to trot out and implement their pre-prepared extension of the law in their consistent war on public freedom. 

Now consider an even worse scenario:

The big, madly careering car, hits a mini bus containing two large immigrant families. All occupants- four adults and six children are burned to death in the wreckage, while the occupants of the big car survive.

Imagine the furore of hatred in the media.

Now suppose that the mother is rich and famous- very rich and very famous. As rich and famous as say: Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed.

What is the public reaction in this instance?

Thankfully, the car smashed into a concrete pillar rather than the minibus, which light structure and contents of soft, vulnerable bodies, would have absorbed much of the impact and possibly allowed the occupants of the big Mercedes to survive the crash.

The phenomenon of ‘Saint Diana’ illustrates the psychological state of the mass, which reserves a special and perverse morality in respect of the favoured- the rich, famous, powerful or beautiful, as compared to the poor and the ordinary.

Thus we rightly condemn the lone murderer, robber or paedophile, while the politician such as Blair, Bush, Clinton and Mandela, who cold-heartedly planned and executed mass murder and horrific crimes are universally venerated.

YAIR KLEIN SEIZED

A former Israeli officer was detained in Moscow on charges of training anti-government militia in Colombia.

Yair Klein, 61, a former lieutenant-colonel in the Israel Defense Forces, was detained Tuesday at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport upon his arrival from Tel Aviv. Klein runs the Israeli-based company Spearhead Ltd.

Russian Interior Ministry spokesman Innokenty Nefiodov said the detention was requested by Colombian police, who have charged Klein with organizing training camps for right-wing militia fighting against the government in their country. Colombia is seeking Klein’s extradition, along with that of two other Israelis they say are involved in setting up the training camps.

Interpol issued a warrant that declares Klein wanted on terrorism charges.

If extradited, Klein faces up to 11 years in Colombian prison.

The Israeli embassy in Moscow is trying to arrange a meeting with Klein. His lawyer is expected to arrive in Moscow by the end of the week.

In Carrel’s laboratory at New York’s Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research, they experimented on animal tissues and organs, fashioning a pump to keep specimens alive — forever. (In theory, at least.) But their research was allied with a disturbing vision: Alarmed by the state of Western civilization, which they saw as besieged by inferior races and weak genes, they hoped to bestow immortality on an elite that would dominate lesser beings.

WASHINGTON — Four of five members of the board of a campaign promoting President Bush’s policies in the Iraq war are Republican Jews.

The board of “Freedom’s Watch” includes Ari Fleischer, Bush’s former press secretary; Matt Brooks, the executive director of the Republican  Jewish Coalition; Bradley Blakeman, a senior White House staffer in Bush’s first term; and Mel Sembler, a longtime RJC leader and former ambassador to Rome.

Brooks told JTA that the fifth member, William Weidner, a casino operator in Las Vegas, is not Jewish. However, Weidner’s wife, Lynn, is Jewish and is active in that city’s federation. Blakeman is the group’s president.
