It makes no difference who supports Ron Paul, since he’s a populist who is supported by people of every political stripe. It’s a non-issue that’s being used by certain people to discredit him:

Actually, Ron Paul is a libertarian.
If he was a populist, he would have my vote.

Well, many of his ideas are populist ideas.

    3. John Says:

We dont need a libertarian or a populist, we need a true National Socialist. Only NS can save white America.

    4. Joseph Says:

Non of his ideas are populist in the fucking least. Libertarians and Populists are complete opposites. Libertarians advocate complete freedom, social and economic. Populists advocate complete repression, social and economic.

“Populism” = championing the citizen instead of the elite and the money-men, like many politicians do. Fighting for the little guy, in other words. In that regard, Paul is a populist.

Wow….never thought I’d be commenting on a *cough* white supremacist site….but that’s the internet for ya.

So yeah, in broad, general terms Ron Paul can be described as a Populist. Heck, in that regard, Superman, Hitler, Stalin, Fidel Castro, and even good ole Benito Mussolini were populists. However, populist ideas are more socialist in nature as opposed to Libertarian ideas. In that respect, Joseph is exactly correct.

This is much like a debate I had with someone over whether America is a democracy or a Constitutional Republic. The bottom line is that America is a Constitutional Republic, which is a form of liberal representative democracy. Much in the way that all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are square.

It can be argued that it is all merely semantics, but remember this. If you call an ostrich a bird for too long, you may forget why it is different from a sparrow.
