You have to have 2 blue genes to have blue eyes. If each of your parents has one brown and one blue gene (thus each having brown phenotype), then your chance of having blue eyes is only 25%. If one parent has blue eyes and the other brown, it's more complicated]

I stand corrected. Using a Mendelian cross would give you a 25% chance of blue-eyed offspring with two brown-eyed parents with recessive blue-eyed genes. Bb x Bb = BB,Bb,Bb,bb. Is blue recessive to green in all instances?

 

An aside:

For example (and if I am wrong on this, please correct me) all four of the famous British rock band, the Beatles, had brown eyes and dark brown hair. And Ringo was the only one who was a Jew.

"Hazel" is not a color (doesn't apear in the color spectrum-ROYGBIV). It's really a descriptive term for eyes that have more than one color. (brown and green, etc.)

When I joined the military (1980), and sitting for the ASVAB entrance exams, we were specifically told "there is no such color as hazel. Do NOT write "hazel" as your eye color. Pick the color that is most visible and put that as your eye color."
