TALLINN, Estonia, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Several top Russian politicians, including President Vladimir Putin, are growing increasingly concerned over an alleged Nazi presence in Estonia.

The Daily Telegraph said many in the Russian government have condemned the current heads of the tiny Baltic republic, alleging recent legislation appears to be a step towards neo-Nazism.

Estonian officials had approved legislation that moved the Bronze Soldier of Tallinn, a major symbol of Russian pride, outside the nation's capital to a nearby war cemetery.

While those officials alleged the statue and similar Russian memorials represent 50 years of brutal Soviet occupation, Russian officials immediately labeled the move as veritable neo-Nazi blasphemy.

Such statements were quickly supported by a ruling from Russia's State Duma, that called for potential economic sanctions and accused the Estonian parliament of encouraging fascism.

The paper said the Estonian government has denied those charges, alleging its recent moves were not encouraging neo-Nazism within the nation's borders.
