White Music

Buddy Holly and Bill Haley were probably the only top rock acts who didn’t sing Black blues-based rock. Look at the Rolling Stones: totally Black-based. Led Zepp, too. (Of course, the later prog rock wasn’t blues-based, e.g., Jethro Tull, ELP and Yes). Haley pioneered an entirely new genre: rockabilly. And he came along before Elvis or Chuck Berry, making Haley the likely actual godfather of rock. As much as I like Elvis, “he who comes first should wear the crown.”
